Your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by your brain and spinal cord via your body's complex nervous system. Your brain and nerves continuously monitor and co-ordinate everything that is happening in your body.
The skull protects your brain. The moving bones of your spine protect the spinal cord and nerve roots. A lack of movement or abnormal movement of the spinal joints may interfere with the normal function of your nervous system.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is the skilled use of delivering a specific force in a precise direction, to a joint that is stuck, or not moving correctly. This adds motion to the joint.
There are many ways to adjust the spine. Chiropractors may use their hands; or have the aid of special adjusting tables; or have you lie on pelvic blocks; or use specialised hand held instruments. Which technique is chosen is dependent on your individual circumstances - an elderly women, an elite footballer and a baby will obviously require very different approaches.
After years of university training and clinical experience, each chiropractor becomes highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting approaches including SOT, AK, Gonstead and Activator methods.
In conjunction with traditional chiropractic care, the following treatment programs are also available at Carine Glades Chiropractic:
- Low level laser therapy for pain, inflammation and healing
- High powered laser for chronic residual trigger point pain and myospasm
- Shockwave therapy for tendonitis and fasciitis conditions like supraspinatus tendonitis or plantar fasciitis.
However, if your condition is not a chiropractic case we will consult with you and recommend what alternative treatment would be most appropriate.
Approaches to Chiropractic Care
Symptomatic Care:
This stage of care is aimed at reducing your pain or symptom as quickly as possible. This is usually the most intensive stage of care and aims to restore joint function and control inflammation as quickly as possible.
Corrective Care:
Corrective care aims to address the long-term, bad habits of your spinal movement. It can help retrain how your spine moves. It can also help prevent relapses or similar injuries later. Corrective care requires consistent, regular adjustments over weeks or months, depending on the case. At pre-determined intervals, full progress examinations take place in order to measure your progress.
Health Care:
As part of a natural, healthy lifestyle, people recognise that in addition to nutrition, exercise and emotional balance, proper body function is essential for good health. Regular chiropractic check-ups help may help to ensure that the body continues to work at its best and sorts out any minor issues before they become symptomatic.
Note - This is intended as a guide only and will vary depending on how quickly you respond to care. Remember... The body's healing methods are complex and thorough. They take time. Patience and perseverance are essential.
